SoftVelocity http://softvelocity.com/ has released Clarion.Net EE Beta Build 9092. Release Notes: The T4 template registry has had major performance optimizations. The LinqToFileProvider has several important fixes, and both the Winform and WebApp templates have many improvements.
I was notified around 11:30 a.m. central time that the ClarionMag http://www.clarionmag.com server had gone offline. The news server is also affected by this. I've opened a ticket and hope to have the server back online shortly.  Update: A rack switch for the cabinet housing the ClarionMag server (and others) has failed and is being replaced.
ClarionMag back online
Access to ClarionMag http://clarionmag.com has been restored. The news server is also back online.
This ClarionLive webinar https://www.devroadmaps.com/display/clarionwiki/ClarionLive+for+April+20+2012 featured Mike Hanson, JP Gutzatz and Bruce Johnson talking about converting files, both with regard to changing file layouts and changing file drivers.
On ClarionLive https://www.devroadmaps.com/display/clarionwiki/ClarionLive Joe Tailleur presented on SQL https://www.devroadmaps.com/display/clarionwiki/ClarionLive+for+April+13+2012, mainly PostgreSQL. He covered sequences and autonumbering, encryption, and strategies for making database changes. He also showed some interesting browse resize code.
Dave Harms is running nightly builds using TeamCity, and decides he'd like to view the TeamCity status web page in the Clarion IDE on startup. Here's how it's done https://www.devroadmaps.com/display/clarionwiki/Using+a+different+IDE+start+page.
Gus Creces is putting on a conference for CHT users this June in Milton, Ontario. Details on the events page https://www.devroadmaps.com/display/clarionwiki/Events.
By default, the IDE constantly asks if you want to save individual field changes in the dictionary. If you find that a bit nanny-ish, here's the quick and easy fix https://www.devroadmaps.com/display/clarionwiki/Turn+off+the+partial+save+warning.
Here's another tip https://www.devroadmaps.com/display/clarionwiki/Show+the+data+type for speeding up dictionary editing, especially when reviewing/changing data types.
Clarion comes with a Developer Version of the ODBC TopSpeed Database driver, but as Rick Martin https://www.devroadmaps.com/display/~rick.martin points out, it does not appear that an installer for the TPS ODBC driver has been included since about Clarion 5.5. Rick likes to do technical support and database debugging using Microsoft Access and the TPS ODBC driver. This lets him write SQL queries to examine and explore the database much more quickly than using TopScan or writing custom code.…
From John and Arnold: We're moving! Well not too far.  We've moved our gotowebinar account to a brand-new account, which will save us several hundred dollars a year! What does this mean to you? You need to register for the new webinar! Last Friday was the last ClarionLive! webinar under the old account.  All future webinars will be under the new account. To register, please visit https://www3.gotomeeting.com/register/118270574 https://www3.gotomeeting.…
John Welch's utility to assist in breaking up apps into smaller DLLs is now available on the free downloads page. Update: Link and typo fixed.
In the softvelocity.clarion.thirdparty newsgroup Chris Kloss reported that Microsoft Endpoint Protection is causing data corruption in TPS files, as has been the case with Microsoft Security Essentials. Apparently MSE and MEP have a common code base. The fix: exclude your TPS directories from scanning or, as more and more devs are doing, move on to SQL.
I've had several questions about apparent problems when searching for older articles. Please keep in mind that we haven't yet moved the ClarionMag content to this site, so for most archival searches you'll want to go to the search page at Clarion Magazine http://www.clarionmag.com/Search/Find.  Your DevRoadmaps subscription does include access to the ClarionMag archive.  We are working on moving ClarionMag content over, but we're not there yet.
